Is Siri usable?
Because of the iPhone personal assistant, I have a feeling the name is no longer usable. If I were to use it, it would be a nickname for Sigrid. What do you think, is Siri usable or not?

Well, it sounds very nicknamey to me.

Sure it is. I met a little girl named Siri at the park ... she was older than the iPhone gimmick. I don't think it'll affect her negatively, since the name wasn't invented at that time. If anything the AI Siri made the name more accessible to people.

I think it's fine, but it works better on someone who is Scandinavian. Over there you wouldn't have a problem with it.

Beside the iPhone association, Siri (on its own) is terribly infantile and childish.
It is fine as a nickname, though, I think.- Francesca

I think it's perfectly usable in the context you mention. I like Sigrid, and I think Siri is a pretty great nickname for an already great name.To be honest, even though I have an iPhone, I probably wouldn't think of that connection first. I hate Siri, and I don't use that part of my phone. Haha.

Well, seeing as how there is a student named Kindyl at the high school, I'd say Siri is fine.

Kindyl is a variant of Kendall, which was already an established and popular name before the Kindle came out. Siri has never really been used in the US, so I think it's different.

Well, it's pronounced Kindle, so I don't know.

I don't know about where you live, but here in California, Kendall and Kindle are pronounced exactly the same.

I live in California. Kendall is KEN, Kindle is KIN. Similar, but not exactly the same.

In my accent, Kendall and Kindle do sound exactly the same. That is not an exaggeration. I'm not saying all Californians speak that way, but I do and so do many of my friends and acquaintances.I looked it up, and apparently the pin-pen merger is more prevalent in the Southern states. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pin-pen_merger#Pin.E2.80.93pen_merger

Sorry, I'd have to say no, it isn't usable. I think it'd be kind of cruel to use. As a nn, it's not so bad, and Sigrid is a lovely name.
