what names scare you when you hear them?
It's a Halloween thing. Certain names instantly make me picture people or events and locations related to the season. My names are Abel, Cane, Jezabel, Violet.

Aside from some already mentioned, Elvira and Morticia are scary names to me. Ashley has also always reminded me of the charred remains of something, but I wouldn't call it "scary".

awesome collection!I think my next PP will be named Lugubelenus. Ancient weird names are how I became a name nerd.

VeraThe name disturbs me on a deep level, both for personal and aesthetic reasons. I don't think it's a bad name, though.

Damien! that was the first one that came to mind. Also, Cane and Ursula.

Not exactly scary, but off-putting:Hannibal - like cannibal
Malvina - malevolent vibe

None of them do. I don't see how a name can scare someone.

Bane. IIRC, someone posted here once and said he wanted to name his son Bane. I think I'd be nervous around someone named Bane.

BANE!? Doesn't that mean something like "curse"? (I read Precious Bane this summer.)

Yeah ... the cause of ruin, woe, illness, and death. It's also the name of several action/fantasy characters, which is where I think its appeal came from, to those who might fancy it. And using older meanings, it could be interpreted as protection (a bane that is useful against something evil). But all I get from it is an air of evil.

Haha. OK, I can't say I find any names scary (Adolf, perhaps...), but Halloween names?
Halloween isn't celebrated much in Sweden. Some children dress up and go trick-or-treating, and you can buy pumpkins, but that's all. It wasn't celebrated at all when I was little (1980's-90's). We dressed up as Easter Witches for Maundy Thursday instead.
OK, 'nuff rambling. Halloween names.Candle
Chalice
Desdemona
Szandor
Aleister
Belladonna
Morgan or Morgana
Oleander
Hecate
Ivy (as in poison ivy)
Carmilla
Lestat
Vlad
Hel
