If I had to go for one or the other on the classic/trendy dichotomy, I definitely swing towards to classics. My taste in names mainly falls into neither category though- I'm sure people would use words like 'hipster' etc but I like names that are 'known' and not particularly weird but definitely not common. Think Penelope, Magnus etc.

I would use a number of classic names though. There are very few trendy names I'd consider.
