Re: Your least favorite popular names
in reply to a message by Lily
I love the name Gail, actually - it seems dated in the way Betty and June seem dated, retro 40's - and Abigail sounds lovely to me, with a Puritan feel. I think it might stem from six-year-old me having complete hero worship for a woman named Avigail who lived down the road. Abby, on the other hand, I have no idea why it's popular. Completely agree about Mia, Brooklyn, Aaliyah vs. Alia (which I think is beautiful). Andrea sounds weird to me on girls; I grew up with several boy cousin Andreas. -son ending names for girls just irritate me on so many levels.
