I'm an Alison, and I love it. I've told my mom it's still the best birthday present anyone has ever given me.
I grew up with a ton of Melissas. It was a top 10 name the year I was born, and it seemed like if you weren't a Jennifer, you were probably a Michelle, a Melissa, or a Stephanie. I've always liked Melissa, though. A few years ago, a co-worker named his daughter Melissa--making her the first baby Melissa I'd heard of in a long, long time--and it struck me again what a pretty name it really is. Not as pretty as Alison, of course, but pretty. ;)
