I like the name Ruby for it's sound, for the nickname Rue, and because it's my birthstone / favourite gemstone. I would probably use it in the middle name spot because of it's popularity but as a first name I like the combos; Ruby Matilda, Ruby Scout, and Ruby Vivienne.
I think Ruby is very usable, I don't see why it shouldn't be. :)

Way usable. I think it's #1 in my state (I'm in Australia). I have a 5-year-old cousin named Ruby. I like it, it has a quirky vintage vibe, but it's just a bit too faddish here right now!

It was my fave name for about 10 years, until my niece was born and given this name! I still love it, even though it's super popular here in Australia. My fave combo is Ruby Mae, but I also love Ruby Isabella (my niece), Ruby Katherine, Ruby Stella, Ruby Esther, Ruby Louisa, Ruby Hannah, Ruby Elizabeth, Ruby Jemima, Ruby Freya, Ruby Annabelle, Ruby Clara, Ruby Matilda, Ruby Martha and Ruby Miriam. I think the name is definitely usable.

It's kind of cute, but more the way a happy, playful Labrador retriever puppy is cute.

I LOVE the name Ruby!!!!! Number one it's British and number two it's a gemstone! I won't name my kid Diamond or Emerald but Ruby is a real name that is used. I live in a place where Ruby isn't popular! I find it totally useable. I collect American girl dolls and I named one Ruby. I love it on her!
