Try saying an ordinary English word like "look", "back" or "tricky". First with as short K-sound as possible and then with a longer K-sound. With a longer K-sound you just linger longer on the K.

I did! I always thought, K was an explosive sound. But I realise that making explosions last longer may cause some difficulties …

Finnish have many such combinations
If you say "riita" (REE-tah), it means "fight" or "argument", but if you say Riitta (REETT-ah), it's a name (a variant of Britta).
