Mylene
I just remembered this name from French 101 last spring (it's a female name that was used in one of our workbooks). I started a topic about it in the Opinions lounge as well and got this response from Mrs. Claire:"Mylène (mee-len) is indeed a French name. It could be a contraction of Marie-Hélène (see Marie & Helene)."This is her best guess and about as much as I know.I did an internet search as well and found this:
http://www.zelo.com/firstnames/findresults.asp?name=MYLENE , where it says that Mylene is Greek and means "dark one"... I have doubts about this though. Any other info anybody can offer would be well appreciated. I think I may even go to the "add names" page and suggest it if I can get enough info. It's very pretty, I think.

I'd bet it's the French form of Milena, but I don't know for sure.

about the meaning dark one: they probably see it as a variant of Melanie.

There's an English singer, who used to be in a pop group, but is now a solo artist, named Myleene.
I don't know if it's related, but I always think that the name sounds like Marlene (English pronounciation= mar-LEEN), which is a contraction of Mary Magdalene.

Yah, somebody on the Opinions board mentioned the singer Mylene... Britpop or something. Unfortunately it doesn't explain the name meaning/origin... but it does prove it's use! Which will come in handy when I submit it as a name :)
