Ok thanx to Anon I know the origin of my first name. I am curious because most names of plants have other meanings..any one know meaning of name. I really want to thank Anon. For 52 yrs I thought that I would never find anything else with my name . It tickled me to death to see it somewhere else!! Mom had always said it was American Indian and she had read it in a book and it meant Joy. No one else had ever heard of it. So thanks again ANON so showing it to me!!

SORRY THE OTHER MESSAGE SEEMS TO GO NO WHERE BUT TYPED IT IN A HURRY. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE KNEW THE MEANING OF THE NAME JACQUINA. MY MOTHER TOLD ME SHE READ IT IN A BOOK AND IT WAS AMERICAN INDIAN FOR JOY. BUT SINCE JACQUINA IS A PLANT NAME WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE KNEW OF ANOTHER TRANSLATION. I HAD NO IDEA THE WORD WAS A WORD TILL ANON TOLD ME ABOUT THE PLANT. HAD NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF IT BEFORE

Two things cast doubt on that theory of mine:
1.This plant-name is more often (and more correctly) written 'Jacquinia'.
2.Jacquin(i)a looks a LOT like 'Jacquin', which is the name of a famous botanist (the Dutch born Austrian Baron Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin (1727-1817), who was professor of botany and chemistry at the University of Vienna). Needless to say this is a more probable origin of the plant-name than some unknown word from a native language.
On the plus side, I'm fairly sure I now know the origin of Jacquina: it is like the French name Jacquine, which means the same as Jacqueline. The 'a' at the end is just a bit of Spanish influence.

Hi also my name is jacquina, and I would also like to know its meaning, my sister is called jacqueline, my brother jacquiel, hence my mother created that name jacquina.

It's a feminized pet form of Jacques, from Hebrew via Latin Iacobus. The exact meaning is uncertain, but a prominent Yaqobal (said to mean "may the lord protect") who lived in Edom is mentioned in a contemporary Egyptian document. Much of the biblical story plays on the resemblance of the name to the Hebrew word for 'heel" and it's derivatives, such as "supplant", "trip" and "betray". The name may have been altered to remove reference to "bal" (lord), a term which became synonymous with pagan Canaanite deities.
