Re: what do you think about this nic name
Howdy Pam,Nothing personal against your husband or his family (whom I'm sure are all fine people), but I hate the name "Charles". Also the nn "Chuck". No particular good reason in either case. "Charlie" is okay, tho. "Chaz" is for fudgepackers only. There's lots of "Trey"'s in the South (all meaning Da Turd), and I hate that nn as well. "Trip", on the other hand, is okay by me. (Wasn't Trip Hawkins the boy-wonder founder of Electronic Arts? Great PC game company.)Nanaea often gives good advice, but she's never parented two kids (even one). I have. The correct response, if people ask him, "How did you get a nickname like 'Trip'?", is to bellow, "BITE ME, YOU NOSY ASSHOLE!!" repeatedly until the person in question goes away. Works every time.-- Da.

Have to admit that I wouldn't tag a kid with a name like "Charles", either, Daividh. But the thing that confounds me is, why do parents insist on giving their kids names that they have no intention of ever using in the first place? I mean, if the intention is to honor a relative who bore that name, how much are they really honoring that relative by never actually using the name?As for my never having parented any kids -- I've got a houseful of yappy, four-legged "kids", as you'll recall. And "Trip" would be a perfectly nifty name for any of them! It's an easy name to holler out the back door: "Heeeeeere, Trip! Get in the house, Trip! GOOD boy, Trip!"Plus, I've got LOTSA 'sperience with "kids"!. Coz, as they say, dogs are just children who eat off the floor. :)-- Nanaea

I've often wondered the same thing, since my boss 25 years ago (Greek guy) said, "My baby's gonna be named George Andrew. We'll call him Drew."So what was the point of the George or even the Andrew? Why not just name him Drew? And if you're gonna name a kid after a relative, they should be ALIVE and likely to leave you A LOT of money. And some of it better go to the kid who's gotta suffer as "Phineas Clarence Smith IV" for the next 80 years! As for kids, Nan: I certainly erred, because Minpins count. Dogs can be as demanding and restricting as any baby! And dogs and kids have so much in common: kids too, are just children who eat off the floor.

I mean, I can see shortening a name for convenience's sake, like Gia calling her daughter "Izzy" or "Belle", and saving the "Isabelle" for those times when she means serious bizznizz ("Isabelle Rose Wagner! You come in this house RIGHT NOW!") -- but calling a kid by a *completely* different name from the first name he was given makes no sense to me at all. Especially since "Drew" is a cool enough name in its own right, and I'll admit that I was just being goofy about "Trip" before. "Trip" is an okay name in its own right, too."And if you're gonna name a kid after a relative, they should be ALIVE and likely to leave you A LOT of money. And some of it better go to the kid who's gotta suffer as "Phineas Clarence Smith IV" for the next 80 years!"******DAMN straight! :) It's worth risking a visit from the Angel of Death if there's a chance at getting your hands on your wealthy zayde's cash, lemme tell ya! :)"As for kids, Nan: I certainly erred, because Minpins count. So, Daividh, when it's bedtime, do you crate your kids at night? I believe that all kids should be properly crate-trained. :)-- Nanaea

This is an intersting conversation, but you know we do "crate" babies in a sense. Putting them in a crib can be considered crating, dont you think? But then they grow out of that kind of crate! And later when we dont let them go out of the yard unless mommy or daddy is with them.... that is the same as when you only let your dogs stray out of the yard unless mommy and daddy take them on a leash! So yes Nan having a dog is the same as having a kid. Except a dog is always like a kid, even when they grow up!
And to the point of naming kids after relatives. Ryan wanted to name our son Bucth after his grandfather and uncle and cousin...etc But I wouldnt let him cause I would of never called him that! What would of been the point unless your going to call your kids by that name? Plus Caleb is alot better name...LOL

You know, I never really looked at it that way before, but yes. A baby's crib *is* really like a crate! Some studies on canine intelligence have concluded that a dog's intelligence may develop to that of a 2-year-old child, so having a dog is like having a perpetual toddler in the house. That's certainly the case with miniature pinschers, as these little guys are *constantly* getting into mischief, and demanding to be cuddled like babies.Speaking of my minpins, my latest "foster child" may be going to a new home soon. If you'd like to see a picture of her, go to this website:www.minpinrescue.organd either scroll down til you get to Tyra, or do a Control + F search for the name "Tyra". Isn't she a pretty little girl? :)-- Nanaea

She is adorable, I love Minpins. My mother has one. Actually My sister and i bought her when she was a pup, and my mother kind of took her. Since my sister and I probably wouldnt give her up to the other my mom was like she is mine...cant argue with your mother! But I still call her my Baby girl when ever I go over there! Her name is Sheba but she answers to "baby girl", "scoopy doo", and "sheba weba". My little sister did the whole scoopy doo thing! LOL I am actually going to try and talk Ryan into getting a minpin when we get a dog! We always have my little Shebuzzers over...oh she answers to that too! LOLGia

Minpins are wonderful little dogs. You never have the expense of having to take them to a dog groomer, they love to cuddle (coz they're virtually hairless on their bellies and they get cold), and they're super watchdogs. They're smart as little foxes, too. :)If you're serious about getting a minpin, consider minpin rescue (I.M.P.S.). Here's the link to the Potential Home Questionnaire you can fill out and submit online:http://minpinrescue.org/home.htmlThere are some *wonderful* minpins out there just waiting for their "forever home". That home could be yours, Gia. I can tell you have a big heart. :)-- Nanaea

Yeah I just love adding more and more kids to my family...LOL I do miss my little shebuzzers! I would love to have a little minpin running around! I have a cat but we have to find him a home cause Ryan is allergic and it is so bad he cant even come home if he wants to breath! I guess I should of listened when he said he was allergic. But he thought he wasent this bad! Plus he loves dogs more then cats! My mother also has a german shepard that Ryan plays with! He like wrestles with the dog it is so funny! I did fill out the questioner!

I bought them both old crates to drive at night, but that's probably not the same thing. The night-crating's a fine idea, but the Child Welfare folks get upset if they find out, for some stupid reason.
