Surely if creativity is what the Society strives for, you can do pretty much what you like - so, go for it.

Sorry, it's just the opposite! The Society of Creative Anachronism is a group of people who re-enact Medieval or Renaissance culture. If you register an alter-ego persona with this society, you have to prove that the name of your character was really in use during the appropriate time period in the European culture the character was from. :)

Oh, is it that bunch? They used to have a web site at s-gabriel.org that was really interesting, but seems to have shimmered off. Hope they revive!
