From wht I can determine, the name is a deriviation of Messier. Our geneology shows the name spelled Mesier, Macia, Machia al in the same family line. There is a website out there for Messier (Machia)that might provide you with more information.

I don't know, but I find the name Messier very close to 'messie' the French for messiah. And in Hebrew, 'messiah' is mashiah. I don't know more, sorry...
