Sorry, but I think that it is bad for two reasons: firstly, as a poor student at a wealthy, elitist university, I often donate my things to charity when I no longer need them as I cannot afford to make cash donations. By taking somebody's donation, you are taking away their charitable giving - you wouldn't take money out of a charity box or collection tin so why take an item that has monetary value? Secondly, you're right, it is stealing from the thrift shop. I work in a local Oxfam shop and you would be amazed at how many people shoplift from us. Having shopped there before is irrelevant. If you went to a shop and stole something, having shopped there before would not be a defence. I would go to the store and make a donation there.
