Where do you live? I live near Seattle and around here it is not unacceptable for people (especially under-30s) who work with kids to have crazy hair colors. As long as you're basically well groomed and have a sunny attitude and are good with kids. There's one woman who works at the gym my kids go to, whose hair is always some eye-popping shade of cherry or tangerine ... and plenty of other women with less screamingly loud but equally artificial colors. If you live in an urban area you could probably ease your employers into it ... by just doing it, one streak at a time. The parents will probably think it's cool, and you know the kids will. I don't get how anyone could be uptight about that, unless you live in a rural area where not even the teenagers do it.
Agree about well dressed men.
