Electric kettles are sold at most department stores, including WalMart and Target, I own one myself even. It just depends on the person tbh. But they're definitely not as widespread, if only because the US isn't really a nation big on drinking hot tea, or hot drinks year-round, outside of coffee. And there are coffee makers for coffee. So, yeah, they're not as popular as in the UK but they are there.
Otherwise, there are oven kettles. But both those things are generally just for drinks... everything else is done on the stove.
And the last movie I watched was the new Total Recall last night, with Colin Farrell. It's pretty different from the original, and I don't like that they didn't go with the Mars storyline, but in general I like it. It's a cool sci-fi story and the world looks great and the action is fun.
