Comments for AALIYAH:
A famous bearer of this name is the sadly disappeared singer & actress Aaliyah Dana Houghton, known simply as Aaliyah (1979-2001).-- alberto 12/10/2004
Means "The Highest, Most Exhalted One".-- missaaliyah 5/13/2005
This name has a story of dreams, beauty, wisdom beyond the age, fullfillment and destiny, all because of its most famous bearer, miss Aaliyah Dana Haughton 1979-2001. AALIYAH {pronounced AH-Lee-YUH}-- respect101 6/21/2005
I find Aaliyah a very beautiful name. It's not an extremely common name, which makes it even more likeable.-- TriwizardChamp3 12/12/2005
I love this name! It reminds me of our beloved R&B singer, Aaliyah Dana Haughton (Jan.16,1979 - Aug.25, 2001). She was an great example of the meaning of the name : "The highest, most exalted one, the best."-- princess07 1/19/2006
I really like this name, but I can't decide which spelling I prefer. I've seen Aliyah, Aleah, Alia.-- claraelizabethann 8/27/2006
Aaliyah is a beautiful name, very elegant. I also like the name Leah. My favorite spelling is Aleah.-- Anonymous User 9/2/2006
I've also heard the word Aaliyah used to refer to the emigration of Jews to Israel.-- Starla Roxanne 9/4/2006
Aaliyah is quite an ear pleasing name. In this spelling of the name people tend to not understand why there are two A's at the beginning. Especially in America. Most people spell it like Aliyah. Some other cool spellings for this name would be Aleah, Aleea, Alia, Aliah, Aleeya, Aaliah, Aaleiya. I was going to name my first daughter Aaliyah Deborah when I was younger. A very cool aspect of this name is that it's not overly used. I have never met a person named Aaliyah. As a matter of fact I have only heard it used by that famous singer who passed away. I would imagine that a girl named Aaliyah would have traits to be honest, humble, beautiful and clever.-- Cyneburga 10/25/2006
I don't think this is how it's SUPPOSED to be spelled, also it's Arabic and pronounced AH-LEAH. But I guess if you want you can also pronounce it UL-LEAH or maybe something else, but it's supposed to be AH-LEAH!-- Anonymous User 12/6/2006
I think this name is beautiful and different. I enjoy the fact it can have so many different spellings. I spelled my daughter's ALEIYA. I love it.-- MyHappy 12/29/2006
I love this name, and I would definitely consider naming my daughter this, but I would spell it Aleah. I just wish it weren’t getting to be so popular, as I like names that are not overused and that are somewhat unique. Regardless, this is a classy, feminine and beautiful name, and any little girl would be proud to have this name.-- TiffanyS 1/15/2007
A very beautiful name for a girl. It sounds so youthful, and at the same time sounds classic.-- Lizdebiz 2/16/2007
I love it pronounced "ar-lee-a" but hate it pronounced "ah-lee-ah".-- Laurisgirl 3/14/2007
I love this name because my favorite singer's name is Aaliyah and I loved her songs.-- kRaZyGrL 3/28/2007
I like this name as it is unusual and different.-- Luangi 4/9/2007
I prefer it pronunciation "Aa-lya".-- Karcoolka 7/1/2007
Although it would be prone to misspelling, mispronunciation, and slight teasing, it is very pretty.-- spaz123 9/15/2007
Aaliyah, with this spelling, was #91 on the 2006 most popular girls name list. I think that it is the most unusual of any of the top 100 names, other than maybe Nevaeh, which is Heaven spelled backwards, and came in at #43.-- leananshae 12/28/2007
Of Hebrew origin (meaning 'exalted').-- Anonymous User 1/22/2008
I don't think I'd ever use this name, but on the up-side, it's different, but a little TOO different for me.-- Patricia Underwood 2/2/2008
Aaliyah meaning "most highest or most exalted".-- jaybee 2/11/2008
It's Hebrew and its meaning is "ascend". It is also used by Jews in the diaspora to refer to someone who has moved to Israel, "to make Aaliyah".-- conquest 2/23/2008
Highest, Most Exalted, The Best in both Arabic and Hebrew.-- antione_214 2/24/2008
It looks as though it's pronounced like uh-LEE-uh, but I know a girl with this name and she says it AH-lee-ah.-- Pippin 4/19/2008
I hope people aren't naming their daughters Aaliyah because of the deceased r'n'b singer. All the girls with this name in America will probably not be too happy about having this rather foreign-sounding name only because the parents liked some tracks of a singer by the same name. Her music wasn't THAT mature and timeless, so you should have a better reason.-- slight night shiver 4/19/2008
I like this name a lot. :) It's a good name to start with and it has good nicknames :) Leah and Allie. But I think I would just use Leah because it's my fav name ever and the spelling Aaliyah is confusing but I think it's the best way to spell it.-- carly_ann 7/11/2008
I think the name Aaliyah sounds great, but I don't really like names that begin with two vowels.-- Name Rater 8/3/2008
I like this name, it's not too common and over used like Alli, Ashley, Olivia, etc.-- Anonymous User 10/12/2008
One word: HORRIBLE! Even though I love the singer and my cousin is named this, I seriously hate this name.-- lol_cool 12/9/2008
It's a very lovely name and it enters in your ear so easy.-- enchy 2/4/2009
I didn't like this name until my cousin named her baby Aalèyah. When I first heard it and saw it I still thought "Uh. No." but after I saw her it grew on me and now I think it's a cute name! I call her Leah some times for short. I also think Aaliyah is cute, but I still like Aalèyah better.-- Anonymous User 3/16/2009
I don't care much for this name. I think it only looks good in Arabic countries.-- number1212 5/14/2009
If pronounced in Arabic, it is Aah-lia. Real emphasis is on the beginning. Pronouncing it as a-lee-ah is English preference I suppose.
I personally think Aah-lia is prettier.-- coolbananas8 7/13/2009
Nice, but I don't like names that start with two vowels, and it's not unique anymore. Look at the popularity! (the graph might be surprising).-- -Julia- 8/26/2009
This name has a meaning to it, it is a beautiful name and is uncommon. Love it and the singer Aaliyah she has inspired me to name my child Alliyah.-- lilmama1236 9/5/2009
