Comments for ÆÐELFLÆD:
起elfl鎑 of Wessex (c. 871-918) was the daughter of King 苐fr鎑 (Alfred) the Great of Wessex, traditionally the first King of England. 起elfl鎑 was married to 起elr鎑 of Mercia as a teenager, and had one daughter. After 起elr鎑's death, 起elfl鎑 ruled Mercia in her own right for seven years until her death.
起elfl鎑 did not rule alone: her and 起elr鎑's daughter, 苐fwynn of Mercia, was her co-ruler. Both women were titled "Lady of the Mercians". When 起elfl鎑 died, 苐fwynn ruled solo for one year until she was desposed by Eadweard (Edward) the Elder, King of England.-- Randee15 5/2/2006
