I wouldn't name a kid this. Mainly because it's the name of a sauce.

In Brazil, the correct pronunciation is 'aufredu'.

This is the name of a delicious white pasta sauce, but it does not sound like the name of a person.

A masculine name that may be the name of a sauce but is also a common name and a good one. I like it.

Alfredo Stroessner was the dictator who killed thousands of innocent people in Paraguay, which is why I don't like this name.

Alfredo is my name though I've always been used to being called Freddie more than anything. I still have mixed feelings for both Alfred and Alfredo alike. While the origin of the name and its many famous bearers are interesting, the Spanish/Italian version sounds real stupid and I get annoyed when people joke about it. All in all I seek to change my legal name to its original form or resort to looking for another name.

It's a good name. It's better for the pasta sauce though.
