This is a strong name, although slightly rough, and may even be described as gutteral. Although I wouldn't name a child this, it might well suit a character in a book.

It sounds pretty much ancient. The guy could go by Al, but he'd still have an awkward, embarrassing full first name. Besides, Al sounds middle-aged at best.
