The name of the main character of a book dealing with drug abuse, "Go Ask Alice".-- Destry 4/14/2005
The main character in the book "Go Ask Alice" is NOT called Alice! It is the diary of an annonymous teenage girl, whose name is never given, and the reason it's called "Go Ask Alice" is because there is a drug related song, "White Rabbit", that contains that line. It is also partly because of the fact that the "Alice" books by Lewis Carroll remind the heroine in one part of a drug trip - she even wonders if Carroll himself used drugs.
Incidentally, there IS a character in the book CALLED Alice, though she is a relatively minor character - a fellow addict the heroine meets on the streets.
It's a great book - and Alice is a great name! :)-- Sophannagh 11/5/2008
Alice is such a sweet and pretty name, I quite like it.-- Lauracer 5/29/2005

Alice is a short, sweet and feminine name, I love it.-- Anonymous User 7/26/2005
Alice is a wonderful name. It reminds me of the characters 'Alice' from "Alice in Wonderland" (a wonderful fairytale) and "Go ask Alice" (a true and sad story).-- Krystal4ever 8/12/2005
When I hear the name Alice I picture a sweet, blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl. I guess that's because of Alice In Wonderland. Nevertheless, I think this is a very simple and sweet name.-- Erica30588 11/22/2005

I think Alice is a very pretty name. I wonder why it has become so unpopular. It is not only beautiful, but also does not risk being mispronounced all the time, unlike Alicia.-- HebrideanBlack 3/25/2006
I agree that Alice is seldom used nowdays. It's not as common as it was about 50 years ago, so today someone named Alice would be different.-- Anonymous User 3/28/2006

Don't forget Alice Cooper.-- Anonymous User 4/18/2006
I wouldn't name my daughter this, because it's rather boring, but I enjoy it. The only Alices I know are a sweet old lady at my church and a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy that lives across my street. It's very simple, classy, and poetic, and possesses a certain dark, almost gothic element. I think Emily, Violet, and Jane are similar -- beautiful, old-fashioned names with a tragic, Shakespearean undertone that are at first glance very ordinary and dull.-- SeaHorse15 4/18/2006
My name is Alice and it is ok, I suppose. The only problem is my name doesn't have any good nicknames. If you know one please tell me! Or leave a comment about this name and the nickname. Please I'm desperate!-- Anonymous User 5/19/2006

One of my best friends is called Alice. I think it's a real cute, girly name and quite an English sort of a name. It sounds good for a little girl or a woman. It's unfortunate the word "lice" is in it, though!-- emeraldstar 6/28/2006
American McGee's Alice. Now, that's a good game. Also there is a book called "Looking Glass Wars" in which the girl spells her name "Alyss".-- Anonymous User 7/26/2006

Alice Cooper has managed to make the name Alice scary.-- pink_floyd_fan 8/1/2006
I always think of Alice in Wonderland when I hear the name. At a former job everyone would call me Alice because they said I looked so much like the character and then a new girl was hired with my name so I got a new name tag and went by Alice while at work. It was fun and I like the name. It's very pretty and simple.-- childdoll 9/12/2006

Simple and sweet. This name will make an appearance when I have children, I'm sure.-- Katesy 12/29/2006
I absolutely adore this name! My name is Alex but when I introduce myself most people hear Alice so I get called that and I clearly don't mind so no need to fix that mistake. :P-- alexinwonderland 12/30/2006
Frankly, I'm not so fond of this name; it sounds so dull to me, although the French pronunciation is pretty in a way. Still, there's some sort of ring to "Alice" that I don't like. Maybe it's the spelling, maybe it's because of Lewis Carrol's "Alice in Wonderland" (I don't like Lewis Carroll), I don't know why.-- gaelruadh19 1/5/2007
Alice Longbottom is a character from Harry Potter-series. She is wife of Frank Longbottom and mother of Neville. She was tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange and some other death eaters and now she lays in St. Mungo.-- Yippal 1/7/2007

Alice B. Toklas was the life partner of writer Gertrude Stein.-- Anonymous User 4/8/2007
I think this name is pretty. It is not overused which is nice. At the same time, though, I don't think I'll name my daughter this.-- CharlieRob 5/5/2007
I one met a girl who spelled her name "Allis". I absolutely loathed that spelling, somehow I felt it ruined this name that looks so elegant and somewhat exotic spelled out. "Alice" is great, but "Allis"? No way!-- Tango 5/14/2007
Superb American author Alice Hoffman wrote At Risk, Seventh Heaven, The Probable Future, Illumination Night, Practical Magic, Second Nature, and others.
This seems to be a great name if you want to give your daughter a "literary" future: Alice Munro, Alice Elliott Dark, Alice Walker, Alice McDermott.-- GasolineAllie 5/22/2007
Pronounced as "Ah-lee-tse".-- Karcoolka 5/24/2007
This is my name. I suppose it's one of those names that looks nice to other people, but when you actually have the name, it's difficult to appreciate.
I get called things like 'Allison' and 'Al' all the time. And it seems that nobody can resist making that tiresome 'Alice in Wonderland' crack. It doesn't help that I fit the 'blue eyed blond' stereotype, either.
In youth, I hated my name. It's taken me years to come to terms and finally accept it, although I wouldn't go so far as to say I am happy with it.-- Topaz Kitsune 6/6/2007
A very pretty name. I admit I prefer Alison, but since it's so much more common, and my preference is not very strong, I'd much sooner use Alice.-- Anonymous User 6/8/2007
This is my middle name, and I don't like it at all. I'm planning to change it, once I find good names to replace both it and my first name with.-- Nagiri 6/21/2007
Alice is a wonderful name that will age so well with the young woman who bears it.-- MissMackenzie 7/28/2007
This is my cousin's name, and she doesn't like it at all. She goes by Ally most of the time, but I like Alice better.-- Katya_4_Ever 8/3/2007

There are a few comments about Alice not being very popular - but warning, its popularity is on the rise, at least in the UK. In the Telegraph's top girls names in London 2006, it was positioned at no. 1 I believe. National tables more like 40. Could be a sign of what is to come both UK and US wide.-- Anonymous User 9/14/2007
I was named after my great-grandmother Alice. My name is Allison though, my mom wanted to modernize the name. But I think the name Alice sounds nice. Too bad people tend to think of Alice and Wonderland when they hear the name. I think the name Alice will once again regain popularity. I know someone that named her little girl this name. It's very cute!-- Coffeebean 10/5/2007
This is not really a famous bearer of the name unless you are a Florida Gators Fan, but the two alligators names are Alice and Albert.-- Anonymous User 10/20/2007
There's a book series which is sort of a reimagining of Alice in Wonderland called the Looking Glass Wars in which it's spelt Alyss. I don't really like the name Alice for some reason but I love it if it's spelt Alyss.-- scott 11/5/2007
Alice is such a sweet, lovely name. Too bad it's a bit overused these days.-- Anonymous User 11/19/2007
I love the name Alice and wish that it would stay unpopular! It is so classic and elegant and old fashioned (which I love, modern names are such a bore!). My favorite character (other than Edward and Bella) in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Series is Alice which makes me love it even more.-- livieluvbug 12/5/2007

Totally vomitable, and only suitable for pet cockroaches or gold-diggers on soap operas! BLEUGH! YUCK! VOMIT!-- chrissiali 3/2/2008
I love this name. It's so extremely pretty and feminine. Much better than Alicia. (But, as a huge fan of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, I might be biased.)-- black_lace 3/3/2008
It's funny, people keep saying it reminds them of Alice in Alice In Wonderland, but to me I think of a small, thin girl, extremely pale and black short hair, and maybe in her late teens. Pixie or fairy like I guess. I've always thought of it that way. No, I didn't get that from the Book Twilight either. I've always imagined it like this. I like my view better than a blonde haired, blue eyed little girl. :)-- wolvenkind 3/5/2008
Dr. Alice Wilder is a famous bearer. She is an educational phsychologist and is included in the new book: In Their Shoes, written by Deborah Reber.-- Patricia Underwood 3/7/2008

One of the world's first set of sextuplets are born in Chicago, Illinois. (There were reported but unverified earlier births of sextuplets being born in U.S. on December 30, 1831, in Italy in 1844 and in Maine in 1847) The Bushnell family delivers six babies, three boys, Alberto, Laberto and Norberto, and three girls, Alice Elizabeth, Alincia, and Lucy. Laberto and Lucy die at birth but we believe the other four babies survived the birth. Alinica reportedly survives to age 85, dying on March 27, 1952 in Warsaw, New York. We've also seen a Guinness Book reference that claimed all six sextuplets survived at least two months.-- Patricia Underwood 5/28/2008
It's such a nice little name, but that makes you wonder if it'll haunt your kid. They'll forever be tagged by that sweet-like-gumdrops feel.-- wishenough 7/19/2008
My name is Alice. I always loved me name, it was different for girls my age at the time (born in 1958), of course, I have had to hear "Go Ask Alice", "Alice Blue Gown", ... In Wonderland ... In DAIRYland (born in WI!) ... doesn't live here anymore, and ON and ON! :)
For my 50th birthday this summer a local DJ, known for a "Connect The Classics" contest used my name as the answer playing "Alice" songs. That was cool. Alice In Chains, White Rabbit and Cooper.
Nicknames! My long-standing one for over 30 years has been "Malice". In High school it was "AL". (?) In grade school, from the dork boys it was All-ASS. Not too nice. Oh well. It's not too common, and old ladies have that name. Oh wait! I AM one now! :)
Overall, I am very happy with it. I am a dog walker by trade and my initials are AKC. Perfect.-- Malice 7/29/2008
I love this name. It's very nice. However, I always seem to use it humorously.-- bananarama 8/1/2008
My middle name is Alice. A couple of friends make fun of me because it's so old-fashioned sounding coupled with my first name (Margaret), but I kind of like it. It's after my great-grandma Al (short for Alice obviously), and it does work nicely with Margaret even though everyone calls me Maggie. Margaret Alice sounds much better than Maggie Alice.-- MaggAims2Live 8/11/2008
I love this name, but I see it as being on either a very sweet or very gothic girl. I don't see my future daughter as being enough of either, but somewhere in between. I think I will persuade my friend to use this name one day though. She'd like the classic and gothic thing.-- Anonymous User 8/15/2008
Since they didn't know how to pronounce English names in Norway "back in the old days", people tended to treat them as if they were Norwegian. Thus my grandmother's aunt was named Alice, pronounced like [al-EE-së]. Sounds like a completely different name, but not bad at all!-- Anonymous User 10/1/2008
Alice Glass from electronic group Crystal Castles.-- Anonymous User 11/1/2008

One of my favorite names of all time. If I had a daughter I'd give her this name. If only the general association wasn't always Alice In Wonderland. There are many other things to name an Alice after. (On the contrary, however, Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite books.)-- ICEyun 12/4/2008
Alice in Wonderland is a famous bearer of the name.-- Miss_Gorgeous 12/12/2008
In Italy Alice has become fashionable lately. It ranks 10th of the most popular names in Italy in 2004 and 11th in 2006.-- presentperfect 12/20/2008
I've always really liked this name. It makes me think of:
1. A little girl with blond hair
2. Alice Cullen, Edward's "sister" in the Twilight books
3. Alice Wilder, Almanzo's sister in the Little House books
4. Alice Deere, Angela and Denton Deere's daughter in The Westing game.-- thecookiemonster 2/5/2009
With Alyssa so popular, I'm surprised Alice hasn't been used more lately. I think I do prefer Alyssa, since you can get the nickname Lyssie, but Alice has a nice soft sound, that reminds me of a Victorian-era British girl.-- bunnyfunny 2/9/2009
I love Alice! It's such a cute name! And it suits all ages. It makes me think of Alice Cullen from Twilight, which is good because she's like my fave character. Overall I give it an eight out of ten. If I have a girl there's definitely a possibility I'll call her Alice.-- aoni 2/28/2009
I think Alice is a lovely name. I think it's really underrated, and looks good on a woman aged 90 and a girl aged 2, in other words, it fits any age. Great name. :)-- walesgal92 5/9/2009
I'm scared for the future of this name. It's been my favorite name since I was a little girl. I even named my BOY cat Alice when I was 3 :) I just really don't want it to become wildly popular because of Twilight. I love the books, but I won't want to name my daughter this someday if every other girl is named that.-- UnicornMacMac 5/25/2009
I LOVE THIS NAME! It is very beautiful and very old-fashioned. However - thanks to the Twilight books - this name may become very popular very soon. But whatever happens to this name, its beauty will always remain! (:-- Anonymous User 5/25/2009
My name is Alice, and I've always been quite neutral towards it. I think it's a classical name, and it can be pretty or dark thanks to certain famous bearers. However, I've actually started to hate being called Alice since the Twilight books (I don't like Twilight at all), and so many of my friends keep telling me how 'lucky' I am to share Alice Cullen's name. I don't think so. I much preferred the 'White Rabbit' and Alice Cooper references I used to get pre-Twilight. Overall though, I guess it's on ok name.-- Alice Obscene 6/18/2009
Alice is one of the few names that I think are completely perfect, in every way. Gorgeous, timeless, works on any type of person, and plenty of nicknames.-- pennycarroll 7/14/2009
I love this name. It's very simple but classy. It sounds so sweet and innocent. Very old timey too. I don't think I've ever even met an Alice.-- aprilpointblank 7/19/2009
I love this name! so sweet, delicate and yet strong. There's a character in the Rangers Apprentice series who spells it Alyss (lovely spelling) and my middle name is also the Latin variant: Alicia.-- Anonymous User 7/23/2009

Alice Paul was an American suffragist and women's rights activist during the early 20th century.-- scholasticastewart 8/27/2009
Like the name Jane, this name seems to have a dark side. Not a bad thing, IMHO.-- 910 9/21/2009
I'm sorry, but I dislike this name. Mostly because it's mine. I've had to deal with the many associations with this name. Some of my teachers call me Alice in Wonderland. I appreciate that it's a nice name with a good meaning, but I would personally prefer a name without such an immediate impression.-- Anonymous User 9/27/2009
Also a Czech name, though not so widely used. The pronunciation is "ah-lee-tse". "Alice In Wonderland" is not an issue where I live, because the translator changed heroine's name to "Alenka". :) But even for English speaking bearer I like Alice much better than e.g. boring Alison. All the references never bothered me, since they are mostly good ones (Alice Cooper, Alice In Chains).-- that one 11/11/2009
