Aloysius is my grandfather's middle name and he's always pronounced it al-o-wish-us. I don't know if that's an approved alterantive pronunciation. He may pronounce it that way because of his Irish accent.-- hana 3/20/2006

In Peewee's Playhouse, there is a dog which Peewee finds and owns throughout one epsoide. He names it Aloysius. This is the first time I heard the name, so obviously, it's one of the first things I think of. But I still like it.-- spaz123 10/22/2007
Sounds like an old grandad to me and it's even more hideous than Albert and Arthur or even Ada and Agnes, the grandma names. Plus I find a name like Aloysius a bit too elaborate in both spelling and sounds (as opposed to the other four names). Lastly, this name may be confused somewhat with the title of the 1980s British sitcom 'Allo 'Allo.-- freeserve.co.uk 10/31/2007
Al-oh-wish-us is the pronunciation most often used in English, and the one that I have heard the most, since it is a name used by many of my "Great" relatives and the deacon at my parish (we call him Deacon Al.) The other pronunciation A-loy-see-us, as seen in the description of the name on this site, is a Dutch pronunciation.-- jazzbunnie 12/6/2007
