Comments for ALYOSHA:
Actually, the pet form of Aleksei is Alyosha, not Alyusha. There is no Russian name Alyusha at all. I know because I am Russian. [noted -ed]-- jak36 12/5/2004
The correct Russian pronunciation (and spelling) is Alyosha (the LYO sounds like the LE in LEARN). You will not find any Alyushas in Russia. [noted -ed]-- Alexei 1/24/2005
A foremost character in Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov."-- Anonymous User 6/29/2007
To clarify: the LYO does NOT sound like the LE in LEARN. It sounds like how it's spelled. Pronounce YO as if you were a New Yorker saying New YOrk; the vowel [o] is actually more like the [ɔ] vowel sound.-- lyosha 5/3/2008
This is the name of the main character in Leo Tolstoy's "Alyosha the Pot".-- lcgirl20 3/8/2009
