Comments for BILBO:
I have always been under the impression that "Bilbo" was taken from the noun, "a rapier or sword", which comes from the word "Bilbao", in Spain.-- Strider 10/31/2005
Actually, the only source stating the connection to a sword is Ruth Noel's Languages of Middle-Earth, a book that is outdated and unauthorative. In Tolkiens universe, Bilbo is from Bilba, which is of unknown meaning, like the main entry says.-- Olof_V 11/17/2007
This name sounds too much like Dildo.-- Anonymous User 4/13/2007
No matter how much of a fan you are of Lord of The Rings, it really would be unwise to name your child this - imagaine the tormet and bullying that would take place!-- Anonymous User 5/3/2007
Like people have said before; this is not a baby name site but a name site. Some names on this site are clearly not meant to be given to kids but are just on the site to explain the meaning.
I use Bilbo like dumbass or silly because it sounds so funny and I love the character Bilbo in LotR so it's not meant to be offensive.-- renee06 5/5/2008
