Comments for CAN:

Origin Persian, is used as well in the Turkic regions of former Soviet Union. It can very well be given to a girl as well. Pronounced: djan.

It is pronounced jaahn. Same as name John.

This name would be TOTALLY EMBARASSING to have!

Pronounced: "Djan", "Jan"
-- Can  12/17/2007
I wouldn't use this name; it's spelled the same as the English word "can".

Why would you name your kid Can? I just can't get past the English meanings.
-- Akito  5/24/2008
I know it's Turkish, but this is a really ugly name! Just think of all the cruel jokes that Can come out of other kids' mouths, say, "kick the Can". I pity whoever has this name.

Can, can, can you do the can-can, can you do the can-can, can you do the can-can?
-- thecookiemonster  2/21/2009
Imagine twins: Can and Will.
-- Likeyeahwhatev  5/2/2009
Not a very good name to have in an English-speaking country, is it? I do like the meaning, though.
-- The_Over_Analyst  8/9/2009
I believe they don't speak English in Turkey, but Turkish. So whatever Can may mean in English shouldn't be a big problem, don't you think?
