Comments for CAOILFHIONN:
My best friend's daughter's name is Caoilfhionn. I really like that name, but the problem is: we're from Germany and nobody is neither able to spell nor to pronounce it! Her second daughter is named Seosaimhín (pronounced like Josephine), although she hasn't any Irish origin. In school the girls are just called Kel and Jo, even on her reports they're named Keelin and Josephine. I think names shouldn't be too exotic (especially when their family name is "Wagner", one of the most common German family names).-- Anonymous User 5/10/2006
Such a beautiful name and I would consider naming one of my children this definitely. But the thing is even in Ireland there are problems with the spelling and pronunciation so I think whereever you are you'll run into problems with it.-- Gianna 6/21/2006
In Irish, Caoilfhionn is pronounced "Qweelonn", approximately. My daughter is so named and that is how we call her. "Keelin" is the same name, but pronounced as you wrote.-- kavanagh 9/19/2006
I really like this name. Especially the spelling. Something about the way the Irish spell really grabs me.-- Anonymous User 5/7/2007
I think the name is cute, but I don't like the meaning too much. It sounds very vain to me.-- pandasayscynical 12/26/2007
A perfectly spelled example of why I hate Irish names.-- Anonymous User 7/17/2008
My name is Caoilfhionn and even though it is hard to pronounce everyone seems to love it. The pronunciation isn't that hard but people are wary of the spelling. Again it is not said like Keelen it is much broader. I work with people from many different parts of the world and they are all able to pronounce it perfect but if I wrote it out for them they get confused.-- Anonymous User 12/29/2008
This name is so beautiful! I've been in love with it all my life. Caoilfhionn is one of my favourites, and the meaning is so literal. Very Irish (I'm Irish!). That's what we like to do - add a bunch of extra vowels that we have no intention of pronouncing. Anyway, I think it's a very pretty name. It sounds so sweet and beautiful. :)-- Ailis 7/5/2009
Gee, who other than an expert on Irish culture would figure that this name was pronounced "KEE-lin"? It's probably the most hideous Irish name after Toirdhealbhach in my opinion.-- bananarama 9/22/2009
