Comments for CHRISTOPHER:

I have also heard that it derives from a name or word meaning the light, or the light that is sent by God, hence Jesus being given the title Christ as in Jesus The Light That Is Sent By God.

Christopher as a girls' name? Uhmmm ... how about not?
-- websurfer  3/31/2006
Weird. It doesn't seem very feminine to me. The only thing that makes it remotely feminine is a sort of similarity to Jennifer--three syllables, emphasis on the first, and the 'fer/pher' ending. However, there is absolutely no etymological connection. I'd hate this as a girls' name, I admit.

I avoid common names like the plague, and though it doesn't get much more common than "Chris", Christopher is still a beautiful name. I really do love the name in the aesthtic sense, and while I'm not into Biblical names either, this one does have something very noble and good about it. Christopher is a great name.

-- CharlieRob  5/6/2007
My name is Christopher and I can't stand being called Chris. There were 1500 or more students at my high school and I think 300 of them answered to Chris/Kris, not just the Ch/Kristopers but also the Christians, Ch/Kristines, Ch/Kristabelles, Ch/Kris-this Ch/Kris-that. All of us refused to answer to Chris before leaving school and I still won't.

Topher as a nickname? Sorry everyone who mentioned that, but I just don't think that sounds normal. Shorten it to Chris, and if you really hate it just get another name.

My name is Christopher and when I was little and people called me "Chris" my mom would correct them and say "'Topher." And my dad started calling me Topher. But I prefer Christopher over all of them but most people won't call me Christopher because they say it's too long to say. But I say that's a bunch of bullcrap.
-- Topher1286  5/9/2008
Now, it's not that I dislike the name per se, but it's overused. I also hate the nickname Chris, and I'm not crazy about Topher either.
