Comments for CINDERELLA:

I know someone who is going to use the name Hannah Cinderella. I think it makes a cute middle name.
-- Mommy2B  7/5/2005
According to the English version of the story, the name was a cruel nickname of the heroine by adding "cinder" to her real name, Ella, because she cleaned the cinders/ashes from the fire.

There was a childhood jump rope rhyme about Cinderella:

'Cinderella
Dressed in yella
Went upstairs
To kiss a fella

Made a mistake
Kissed a snake
How many doctors
Did it take?

(after that, you'd count off how many jumps you could make)

I know the name Cinderella in Germany was replaced by Aschenputtel, and I think it's so much more cute.
-- prisavril  4/29/2006
Absolutely no one would name their child Aschenputtel in any German-speaking country. Believe me. Another German name for Cinderella is Aschenbrödel.
-- swisssugar  7/7/2006
No child should ever have the bad luck to be named Cinderella.
-- websurfer  9/13/2006
Your child would be mocked. People would ask how her prince charming was doing, if she could say hi to the little mice, could she please hit her stepmother and sisters. Not a good name for a real person, let's leave Fairytale names for Fairytales please.

I most definitely agree that this name should never be used in real life. I mean, it was a sweet story and everything, but it's like a curse. You'll scar the poor girl for life. Why would you name a girl "ashes"? Why would you name her after a character that was mistreated, abused, unloved, and unwanted by her family? That's horrible. No offence, of course, to anyone that likes this name or has this name, especially. That's just my opinion of this name. Using it, I mean.
-- hereiamagainxx6  1/30/2007
I know it's really weird but I just can't help liking this name.
-- Anonymous User  2/7/2007
Cinderella should only be used for middle names! Never name your kid Cinderella. Seriously, they would be made fun of for as long as they live! If you like it that much, use Ella.
-- flipflops5  3/3/2007
The original name was Asschunputtle, which means "Little Cinder Girl" in German. When the fairytale was translated to French it became Cinderella.
-- Rockos_Modern_Life_1  3/7/2007
I like the fairy tale and all, but no little girl should have to use that name. In the story, Cinderella is what her step-family used in mockery of her dirty clothes and such.

A variant of the jumprope rhyme:

Cinderella
Dressed in yella;
Went downtown to meet her fella.
(or "Went downtown to buy some mustard.")
On the way, her girdle busted;
Cinderella was disgusted.
-- Kosta  7/9/2007
Also on the jumprope rhyme you could say:
Cinderella, dressed in yella, went downstairs to meet a fella, made a mistake and kissed a snake, how many doctors did it take? Then you start counting the docters 1-2-3 until the person stops or messes up.
-- Anonymous User  8/25/2007
I'd rather use this name for a pet than a child, if you know what I mean.
-- aquaspirit96  9/10/2007
Steven Curtis Chapman sings a song called "Cinderella" that's really sweet!
-- Wunderkind_Princess  11/11/2007
I think that Cinderella might be a pretty name, but your child would be endlessly teased and would regret that you chose this name for them. What are you trying to symbolize with this name? That when you die/you're partner dies your child will be horribly off/you will make a horrible choice and be the cause of pain to your daughter before you too kick off? I wouldn't want people to think of that when they saw my kid.
-- livieluvbug  11/30/2007
Don't name your child this.
-- number1212  5/13/2008
It's a pretty name, but hopelessly tacky. It sounds like a stripper name. It would be difficult for a woman named Cinderella to be taken seriously. People woud make fun of her from her childhood through adulthood, and just imagine how weird this name would be on an old woman!
-- slight night shiver  5/18/2008
It's kind of a neat name but I would never ever name my child this!
