I am shocked at the immaturity and ignorance of the previous commenters. Of course Cowessess does not come off that way to the Native Americans who use it, because they speak a different language! I actually find the name very appealing. I see a very pretty, strong Native American girl fitting this name perfectly.

I think this name sounds really cool and unique. Though some very immature people, unfortunately, would make fun of it.

I would have to say that this name is undeniably funny from the standpoint of a modern English speaker. Not to say that it isn't a perfectly good name, but to us it does sound like a group of female cow-herders or something along those lines. I wouldn't name your kid this.
