Comments for CYBELE:
Her name means 'she of hair' or 'mother'. She is also know as Kybele and Magna Mater [Roman]. Her titles are: 'Mistress of the Animals', 'Mother of the gods, savior of who hears' and 'Accessible One'. She is the goddess of life, death, rebirth, nature, beasts especially lions and bees; caverns, mountain tops, walls, and fortresses. She was worshipped in Phrygia, Turkey, Mauretania, Morocco and Algeria; in Greece the cities of Athens, Ephesus, and Crete Island; Lyon, France; Madrid, Spain; Syria; and Alexandria, Egypt. Her most estatic follwers were castrated males who led the people in orgy type ceremonies with wild music, drumming, dancing, and drink.-- Minister Falcon 4/28/2005
Different. It almost sounds like the English name Sibyl.-- Tbird 6/23/2005
I have heard this name pronounced "SY-bel", but it was probably a case of someone's mother reading the name and pronouncing it wrong, but still liking it.-- Anonymous User 1/27/2007
I love this name. It's so feminine and unique. Although I prefer the spelling "Cybelle" with two L's.-- childdoll 4/25/2008
What a beautiful name, very elegant and sophisticated, and not overused. In fact, I've only encountered this name in the track title Cybele's Reverie. I didn't know how to pronounce the name, and I thought it's ''si-BEL'', which actually sounds like a tremendously beautiful name. You could spell this Cybelle, Sybelle, Cibelle, or Sibelle, and pronounce it as ''si-BEL''. All would work, but this is also lovely. I don't like Sibyl, though.-- slight night shiver 5/19/2008
Cybele's Reverie is a track by Stereolab.-- slight night shiver 5/20/2008
I love this name, but I like it pronounced sib-ah-lee! It sounds pretty, softer and more unique!-- funinthesun19 11/3/2008
