No, I am afraid it isn't "Don-ee-ah or Donyah". It is my wife's name and I know. It it like "Do-ee-nah, with the accent on the first syllable. The meaning is "very sad popular love song".

And the "a" needs a thingy (forget what it's called) "ă" if it's the actual word, doină, meaning a melancholy Romanian folk song.
