This is my name, and I like that there aren't very many girls with this name who are my age (seventeen). It's nice to hear someone call your name in a crowded hallway and know that s/he means you. Two things that girls with this name will hear, though, are the song "Come on Eileen" (I've had it played for me on a marimba) and lame jokes about "I lean" that usually involve only having one leg.

This is my aunt's name, Eileen Rose. I also just realized a few weeks ago that Eileen backwards is "Neelie", a name that (in a baby names book I have) is listed as being Irish/feminine in origin, and meaning "Victorious".

Eileen is my mother's name and I think it is pretty. I read one of the posts above and was glad to see there is a 17 year old named Eileen. I don't have children but if I did and had a daughter she would have been named Eileen. Not only is it a pretty name, my mother is an angel on earth to everyone she meets. That makes the name even more special to me.

This is my grandmother's name, and I love it! I wish it was more popular as it's so sweet and angelic. I would definitely consider it for future children (I already have 2) either as a main name (which I doubt my husband would allow) or as a middle name.

My Grandmother, who was from the Republic of Ireland's names were Catherine Eileen Veronica, and she used Eileen to refer to herself, my aunt is also called Eileen Anne, I'm to used to this name for older women, so I woldn't name a girl this, as it hasn't youthful connotations for me.

This one sounds like an old-fashioned country girl name to me, and it brings to mind that one hit wonder tune titled Come On Eileen as well. I don't flat out hate the song, but I don't want it to get stuck in my head either.

This name seems ok, but not very childlike. It always makes me think of old ladies and middle aged women.
-- Hushpuppy  10/24/2008
This is my paternal great-grandmother's name, and it's good to know there are those of the younger generations with this name.

Why not name your little girl this name? It's beautiful and not used as much as other names you hear, traditional and made-up. I'd consider this name in a heartbeat. It makes me think of a girl who is tall, has brown hair and hazel eyes, soft-spoken, elegant and very smart.

In all honesty I think this is quite a nice name, and I love the song Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners. Lively, fun and historical-sounding name. Lovely. :)
