I adore Emeline - it's such a fresh alternative to Emma and Emily! ♥-- Wordsmith 12/21/2006
Emeline comes from heim lind, which is a German phrase for "peaceful home." The name was brought to the attention of the English world through Normandy in the 11th century.-- sarahj 3/10/2007
My great grandmother's name was Emeline, and she and her family pronounced it "emma line."-- NinaCorleone 7/30/2007
I always thought it was spelled "Emmeline", with two "m"! And as it is stated as a French name, the spelling should in fact be "Emmeline" regarding the pronunciation of the name. As far as I know, "Emeline" would look and sound very strange in French.
There's also an entry for the name "Emmeline" on this site, but the origin is stated as being different from this one's. I don't really get it.-- Senko 6/23/2008
