Evan Lysacek is currently my favorite celebrity, but I liked the name Evan before I had ever heard of him. I definitely like it for a boy - not a girl! Unfortunatly others like it too and it is getting quite common.

I like this name for a boy. My father's name is John, so I might use this less popular equivalent of John. I don't like Ian, another equivalent of John.

I like the name Evan. It's a very strong-sounding name.
-- Penneyperson  7/8/2007
I think Evan should also be considered a feminine name. You've got actress Evan Rachel Wood as an example and it's not the only girl named Evan I've heard of.
-- Anonymous User  8/5/2007
No offence, Mindy, but just because some people misuse the name doesn't mean it 'should be considered' differently. My brother's name is Evan (he's the only one, male or female, that I know) and he hates that Evan Rachel Wood's parents stole his name! If it ever 'should' be considered feminine, it should be because of the real, historical reason listed above.

I know I've already shared my opinion on this name, but I'll do it again. I still like this name, and I happen to know somebody who has it. I think most Evan's are nice people--I've never met a bad seed named Evan.

We love this name, we named our son Evan. This is the only name I personally liked and it is tough for me to pick and choose a name for my children being a school teacher. It is not widely used at all and it is still the name that everyone knows how to pronounce and spell! I love it!

From the Hebrew, Eben or Even, meaning a rock or a stone. It is found in the compound word Ebenezer in 1 Samuel 7:12 saying "Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far the LORD has been our help."
-- rogerelisabeth  5/7/2008
I like the name, even though it is very common and a bit dull. It has a pleasant sound, and it's short and simple. It doesn't sound like the name of a jerk either.
-- slight night shiver  5/23/2008
Cute for a little boy. Great for a teenager. Awesome for an adult. You can't go wrong with this name for either gender.

There's something about this name that appeals to me, yet I don't know what. I really like the sound of it, anyway. =D
