Comments for FIDELMA:
My Grandma's name is Fadelma not Fidelma, but this is the closest thing I have found and it must be a very old name. I am so happy I have even found a resemblance. We have never met anyone else with this name. I think it quite lovely of a name.-- sarah25 11/23/2005
First records of the usage of this name go back to the 6th Century A.D. From the Saint, Saint Fidelma, who was converted to Christianity by Saint Patrick, and was very popular in Ireland at this time and until the late Middle Ages, but today, the name is, sadly, very rare, even in Ireland, where the name originated. I think it is sad that this name is not more popular, because it is a very nice-sounding and ancient Celtic name. Although first records of it go back to the 6th Century A.D., it was most likely used long before that, but simply not recorded.-- walesgal92 6/13/2009
