Herbert, along with its pet forms, sounds grandad-ish to me, in the same way that Gertrude, along with its own pet form Gertie, makes me think of old ladies.-- freeserve.co.uk 3/3/2007

I think there was some kind of pedophile on Family Guy named Herbert. Sort of ruined the name for me, but I still think the pet form Herbie is cute.-- Carriebear_Nocare 3/4/2008
I've read some pretty immature things on this site, but under this name, I see no mention of Herbert Garrison, the homosexual teacher of South Park. Duhh.-- SingingDove114 3/15/2008
The name has, not one, but two long schwa sounds, so it's not exactly a beautiful name. It's also very old-fashioned, and I'd probably burst a vein in my head laughing if I heard a parent shout: ''Herbert, it's time to go!'' It would sound quite pompous and pretentious, not to mention quite geeky, on a child today, and I hate the nickname Herbie.-- slight night shiver 6/1/2008
