Comments for JAYA:
Pronounced JI-uh.-- echo_of_the_past 4/15/2006
I have two different friends who are both named this and one of them said her name was a variation of Gaia, which is the earth in Greek mythology (I think) and the other said that she was named after Mt. Jayapura in New Guinea.-- Alphlyka 10/21/2006

The meaning of Jaya is victory.-- marjaani13 1/18/2009
This is among my favorite names. As was said above, it means victory in Sanskrit. Most Indians would pronounce it like JAH-yah, but that might be difficult for an anglophone, in which case I would recommend the equally gorgeous pronunciation of JIE-yah. It's hard to believe that this name isn't hideously popular, I mean, it has a fantastic sound, meaning, and look. Whatever. I'm happy that it's remained in relative obscurity.-- Ouaie 1/27/2009
