In my catechism classes I was taught that Kenneth is the Scottish form of the name Canice (pronounced kenees) who was a Christian missionary to both Scotland and Ireland and was believed to have founded the cathedral at Kilkenny.

Kenneth is a great name to grow up with, Kenny to Ken or Kenneth. I hope to name a son after my father, because there aren't enough Kennys anymore. I worked at a daycare recently and no Kennys.

Although the name Kenneth is nice, if you plan to name you son this there's a good chance his girlfriends will be nicknamed "Barbie". I have a friend who dated a Kenneth.

Kenneth McCormick is the full name of the South Park character "Kenny" (who is famous for his orange parka and always dieing).

What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" is a song by the rock group R.E.M. from their 1994 album Monster. In October 1986 two men assaulted Dan Rather on Park Avenue NYC. One of them kept shouting "Kenneth, what's the frequency?" William Tager, the vocal assailant, later insisted that he was sent from the future in a parallel universe. He said that everyone from that universe has a double in this one in the past, and that he mistook Rather for his double, Vice President Kenneth Burroughs. He said that Kenneth knew the secret TV/radio wave frequency that was being used to block Tager from returning home. Nutty, huh? The song is awesome, though.

I have to say that I agree with the last comment. In my honest opninion, I think that Kenneth is probably one of the worst names around. When I picture a guy named Kenneth, all I can think about is this stuck-up, annoying and arrogant jerk with no sense of humor and a very low IQ.

Kenna is a feminine form of Kenneth. So are Kendra, Kendall, McKenzie, Kenzie and Kennette. By the way, the English verb, ken, means "to know", and has been used in archaic poetic English to mean, "to love", as in the Bibilical, "and Adam knew Eve". Kent is an alternative name for a boy if your looking for a related male namesake.

Come on, this name isn't that bad. It's not one of my favorites, but it is a rather handsome name. I'd rather see a little Kenneth than another little Justin, Joshua, or something like Cody or Aidan. And you can't say it's not a classic, being that it is so old. At least it's not creative or trendy.
