Comments for KIRI:

Kiri is also a Maori name, and I think it is very pretty.

I had a friend named Kiri, who told me it meant "rainbow" in Maori (native New Zealand). But a Maori dictionary says it actually means "skin". I still think it's a very pretty name.

My sister is called Kiri after Kiri Janette Te Kanawa, a famous opera singer from New Zealand. I think it's a gorgeous name but few people pronounce it properly unless you tell them.

My friend's mom has the name Kiri. They pronounce it Kee-Ree.

Well, actually my parents named me Kiri. I have always wondered where it came from but now I know. Growing up, people have had a hard time pronouncing my name, but I like it because it is unique. I always thought I was the only one with that name but now I see there are others with that name.

My parents are first-generation immigrants from Japan, and they gave me the name Kirie after hearing a reference to Kyrie Eleison in a movie.

The kanji they intended for my name were Kiri (桐) and e (絵). Kiri is the Japanese name for the paulownia tree, which has an important place in Japanese culture and is occasionally referred to as the 'princess tree', while e means "painting, portrait, picture".

Some other meanings for Kiri include:
Kiri:
霧 = mist, fog

ki:
気 = air, atmosphere, mind, heart
生 = life
木 = tree
記 = write, inscribe, record
期 = an era
希 = rare, uncommon, hope

ri:
里 = village, the home of one's parents
理 = reason, principle, justice, truth
離 = leave, stray
俐 = wise, intelligent
哩 = a mile.

My parents named me Kiri after one of their friends in Australia. I'm not sure of the correct pronunciation in Maori, but we've always said KEER-ee. I love my name. No one else I know has it. Though I hated it when I was a little girl, I can't think of any other name that would suit me.

My name is Kiri. I have been told many things about where my name is from. I live in the UK and have been told that it means something about a drowning girl. Then someting about cutting and also I had a Greek man say it was his name and it is a Greek name. I have been told many times it's from New Zealand so that's what I will beleve.
