Merry could be a nickname for someone named America.

Merry Christmas, anyone?

Merry Vik was a pseudonym used by a writer of popular young adult fiction in Sweden. She chose it because it meant happy and Vik (meaning bay) because she loved the sea.

A possible nickname for someone with the name Meredith.

My friends name is Marianna she goes by Merry. I also think that Merry would NOT be a good nickname for America. A girl I know goes by the name America. She does not like Merry but prefers Rica. I agree with her.

I know someone who's name is just Merry, she likes the name but gets annoyed when anyone calls her Mary or makes jokes about "Merry Christmas."

I love this name! However, whenever I see it, I'm tempted to pronounce it like how Mary is pronounced.

Sounds weird. Maybe if your name is Meredith or Mercy, it would sound fine. But as a legal name, it wouldn't work and would lead to teasing.

The name Kalimac does not actually mean 'jolly, gay', it is the shortened form, Kali, that has that meaning in the Common Speech. Kalimac is described by Tolkien as 'unmeaning'.

I have a friend who I now call Merry. However, I discourage parents from thinking this means they ought to name a boy Merry. It just wouldn't work (it's different for my friend because it's a nickname). However, if you're a Tolkien fan, I think it would be interesting and somewhat cool to give this name to a girl.
