Nadine is the name of a character in Stephen King's The Stand. The character is a teacher who cares for a little boy she found wandering after a plague has wiped out most of the population. It turns out she is to be the virginal bride of Satan who is meant to have his child, but in a moment of rebellion, she throws herself over the bacony and ruins his plans. Her hair goes from black to white during the course of the book. I love this name -- not just because of the character :)

I love my name and the fact that so few people have the same name. The only downside is that no one knows how to pronounce it! While I don't like Nay-deen, Nar-deen is even worse.
As it's a French name, I'm going to take the word of a French lady named Nadine who told me my Aussie accent was butchering my name (I tend to say Ni-deen, apparently). She told my quite authoritively that it is pronounced Nah-deen, with the Nah quite soft and emphasis on deen.
