Comments for NATASHA:

In Greece, Natasha is also a diminutive for Anastasia.
-- khensonm  3/24/2005
The name Natasha means Christmas child, born on Christmas day. Its main origin is Scandinavian.
-- broken1221  3/25/2005
Natasha isn't Scandinavian. It's Russian.
-- Caprice  7/25/2005
Natasha does have Slavic roots, not sure about Scandinavian roots though. It main origin is ethnic European including the Slavic countries and Greece.
-- Anonymous User  8/6/2005
I like it spelled like this: Natascha. It's one of my best friend's name.
-- Mary-Rach  8/8/2005
Natasha can also be used as a nickname for Natalya. I know a Russian girl named Natalya, but no one ever called her that because it was too formal. We always called her Natasha.
-- miraclegirl80  9/17/2005
My name is Natasha and it means "Born on Christmas". Its origin is Russian. I am 13 and I have always hated my name. But now I'm starting to realize it's kind of a pretty name.
-- Natasha_888  10/24/2005
My first name is Sophie, and I HATE that name sooo much, but my second name is Natasha, and so I've changed my name to that, so everytime I meet someone, I say I'm Natasha. (thank god for second names)
-- Lover_of_horses  11/12/2005
Natasha is my name and I share it with 2 other people at school, including a teacher. Two famous bearers of my name are Natasha Hamilton from Atomic Kitten and Natasha Bedingfield.

Natasha is the name of the villainess of the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" cartoons.
-- breakofday  12/16/2005
My name is Natasha and it really gets on my nerves when people confuse it with Natalie. I sometimes think they do it deliberately just to wind me up.
-- Anonymous User  12/21/2005
Natasha was the real name of actress Natalie Wood.
-- lindamaree  3/9/2006
I have never been fond of this name ever since someone told me that their name was Natasha and if you spelt it backwards it said "ah-satan" I don't like having the word satan in a name.
-- Anonymous User  4/25/2006
'Satan' was originally an angel. Naming your child Natasha is equal to naming it Lucy or Jennifer ('Lucifer'). If you've got any respect for the English alphabet, you won't be silly enough to spell a name backwards, unless you're part of a cult.
-- Anonymous User  4/29/2006
If you had read the comment properly I didn't say that I spelt backwards or was part of a cult, it was just someone I met briefly that was bragging to everyone that her name had Satan in it and it turned me off the name.
-- Anonymous User  4/30/2006
You didn't say someone was bragging about that, but that is still not nice. It is a good reason to be turned off the name, I suppose, if you did hear this woman bragging about such things. I personally like the name, it is pleasant, in a Russian way.
-- Anonymous User  5/4/2006
My name's Atasha--a form of Natasha. It's kind of ironic for me because 'Natasha' means born on Christmas, when in fact, I was born in the dead center of the summer--August 8th.

Needless to say, I do not have red hair and blue-green eyes. It would look terrible on me if I did, seeing as I am of Indian (India) origin. Honestly, could you imagine a brown-skined redhead with blueish-green eyes?
-- Lalia  5/14/2006
Also Serbian.
-- Carnaval  5/16/2006
A famous bearer of this name is supermodel Natahsa Poly (Polevshchekova) who is from Perm, Russia.
-- Anonymous User  5/28/2006
My husband and I, born in the mid 60's, always associate this name with the Rocky and Bullwinkle villan, who with her "dahlink" Boris, was always "makingk trubble for moose und skvirrel". My kids, born in the 90's, associate it with Baby Natasha from Sesame Street (aka Soo-OOOO-per Baby!), a furry little purple monster whose favorite activity is blowing raspberries.

English: A famous bearer of this name is former actress Nataša Gollová who is from Czechia

In Leo Tolstoy's novel 'War and Peace' there is a girl named Natalya Rostova who is called Natasha.
-- Anonymous User  12/27/2006
I used to think that this was a good name, untill I met this really snobby, annoying, mean and selfish Natasha. She gave me a bad impression.
-- pussycat doll  1/1/2007
There is the singer Natasha Bedingfield.
-- bibi66  1/20/2007
My name is Nastassja. I guess a derivitave of the name Natasha, but none the less, I was named after Nastassja Kinski, a famous model and actress. My friends call me Tassja, pronounced Tasha, and I think it fits me well, though I neither have red hair or blue green eyes. I have black hair, naturally, and hazel eyes. Thanks for everyone's insight though!
-- tassja  3/1/2007
I really like Natasha with the nickname Tash. :)
-- Jasmine  3/6/2007
I have this name, every other person (that is 2 people though it's getting popular now) who is a bearer of this name tends to be very senstitive. Sadly this name gets shortened to Tasha, which makes a formal upperclass name into trailer trash.
-- Anonymous User  5/3/2007
Greek meaning 'rebirth'.
-- Fiend Grrl  6/22/2007
In Russian it means 'Tower', 'Christmas' and 'Birthday'. In African it means 'Thank You'.
-- Fiend Grrl  6/22/2007
My mother's name is Natasha. There once was this Russian guy, who didn't speak very good English, and she had mentioned her name, so he said:
"But you have Russian name, speak Russian!".
-- simpegirl81  7/20/2007
It's a dimunitive of Natalia/Natalie in Russian, but it doesn't mean *anything* in Russian besides the meaning of the Latin word Natalia derives from. In Latin Natalia means something along the lines "natural". Nastassja has nothing to do with Natasha, Nastassja is Anastasia.
-- jestingrace  8/6/2007
There is a French Canadian singer who is named Natasha St-Pier.
-- Tirose  8/19/2007
Swiss-American actress Candace Cameron & Russian hockeyplayer Valeriy Bure have a daughter Natasha Valeriyevna Bure, born 15. August, 1998.
-- Maggie_Simpson  10/12/2007
I have heard it as a name with Hindi origins.
Nat from Nataraj the incarnation of Shiva as The Lord of Dance. Asha from life, hope, desire. As for the judgment over Satan included in the spelling of the name, deal with it. There can be no light without the dark.
-- Nataraj  2/21/2008
I love the name even more now, since I've got into the work of English actress Natasha Richardson, and I would consider naming a child after her. It's quite mysterious and mythic. Love it!
-- littlescarlett  3/6/2008
The name Natasha conjures up this image of a Russian ballerina in my mind.
-- Akito  3/19/2008
My name is Natasha and I've always liked it! That said only new acquaintances call me Natasha as all my family and friends call me Tasha or Tash, both of which are pretty swish and seem to suit me. Can't say I've ever felt they 'dumb down' the name. Apart from the odd moustache joke (which can be quite funny sometimes!).

Plus what, I've always liked the irony of the name spelling Ah-Satan backwards yet having meanings linked with Christmas - you can't get more interesting than that!
-- Bil  3/28/2008
If you like this name and hate the name Nevaeh, you can name your daughter Natasha and have fun by telling all those people who tell you that they named their daughter Nevaeh because it's 'heaven' spelled backwards that you named your daughter Natasha because it's 'ah Satan' spelled backwards! This is quite a pretty name, and it always makes me think of attractive young women. It's common, so I wouldn't use it myself, and I avoid anything remotely religious anyway.
-- slight night shiver  5/1/2008
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous name! I want it to be mine, all mine! =)
-- GarbageGuy  5/30/2008
Did anyone mention Natasha Richardson?
-- susiejean  6/15/2008
This is my twin sister's name, I think it's very pretty.
-- Anonymous User  8/16/2008
Though it's beautiful and reminds me of the wonderful singer Natasha Bedingfield, it's a bit of a stripper name.
-- CutieCupcake  8/17/2008
Russian actress Nataliya Shimanchuk, born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
-- Emilie007  9/8/2008

-- rachypiesheepbaa  2/14/2009
This is my name, and unfortunately, it's a Slavic term for a prostitute.
-- Hushpuppy  2/15/2009
In Piers Anthony's novel "Being a Green Mother" one of the main characters is a man called Natasha. However, he reveals that he is in fact Satan in disguise, explaining that "Natasha" backwards is "Ah, Satan".
-- Feorsteorra  3/5/2009
A lot of people have said Natasha is overused but I've only known one (whose younger than). Natasha Richardson is a great example of what the name can be so here's hoping she recovers as the world needs to show what all you Natashas can do.
-- littlescarlett  3/17/2009
Natasha is so pretty, on a sad note actress Natasha Richardson died in a skiing accident, and this has made me adamant to use for my daughter if I have one. My Natasha will be Natasha Jane just like Ms Richardson.
-- littlescarlett  3/24/2009
My second-oldest sister is named NaTHasha, which my mom got from this name. She was talking with her friends about baby names when she was pregnant with my sister, and one friend, who had a very bad cold, suggested Natasha. Her stuffiness made it sound like NaTHasha, which my mom liked better. My mom and sister have always gotten compliments on this name, and though she has gotten a few mispronunciations she likes it. I think it's beautiful and unique without being over-the-top, and it flows nicely with Lynne, her middle name.
-- britto08  3/27/2009
I've always liked this name, it's very pleasing to the ear and a very good name for a girl born on Christmas Day.
-- Arcticwarrior  6/21/2009
Though I'm not a fan of Russian nicknames being used as full names in their own right (such as Katya and Anya), Natasha is one of the few that I don't mind as a legal name. It just doesn't sound quite as nicknamey to my ears as other Russian diminutive forms that just sound silly as full names.
-- Anyechka  8/7/2009
Also, this name is Macedonian in origin. It is also used in many Slavic speaking countries due to the relation with the Russian language.
-- Anonymous User  8/19/2009
My name is Natasha and I love it. My mum was stuck between Natasha and Natalie but chose Natasha in the end. It means 'Christmas born' which was one of the main reasons she chose it as I was supposed to be born in Christmas day but ended up five weeks early instead. However, I'm usually referred to as Tasha or Tash - even by teachers - as Natasha is a rather long name and it tends to be easier to say Tasha than Natasha. Also for the record, I don't have green eyes or natural red hair. And the whole “ah-satan” thing is silly. My mum is a devote Catholic and doesn’t care about it. Also, I am 16 and don’t drink or do drugs. Yes, I’m absolutely terrifying.
-- Anonymous User  9/17/2009
Love the name despite it now being short-hand in many regions for Eastern European prostitutes.
