Famous perosn is Theodore Geisel, aka Dr. Suess.

Theodore Nott, a introverted Slytherin in the Harry Potter novels. Also, I love this name. It just well, reeks of class and sophistication, and has got such heavy meaning to it. I love it!

I like this name; I wish I didn't always think of the chipmunk when I hear it.

Theodore Roosevelt (October 27, 1858–January 6, 1919) was the youngest man ever to become US President, being 42 when President McKinley's assassination meant he as Vice-President became President. His eldest son was also Theodore (September 13, 1887 - July 12, 1944).

I really like the name Theodore for a little boy. Some short forms of Theodore are Teddy, Ted and Theo.

I can't believe that nobody mentioned a famous literary bearer of this name: Theodore "Laurie" Laurence from "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott.

This is my infant son's name. Obviously I love it - so gentlemanly and handsome with the ever affable nickname Theo. We choose our names based on how the name will carry our child through life and doors that may open for our child as a result. I can imagine a high court judge named Theodore, an artist or plumber named Theo. He can be whatever he chooses with such a versatile and eloquent name :) He is also living up to its meaning, being so truly delightful - a 'divine gift'!

Theodore "Ted" Schmidt is one of the characters on the US version of the TV show "Queer As Folk".
-- torioso  3/28/2008
Shockingly enough, this name is still quite common. This full version sounds quite pompous and old-fashioned, and I don't like the kid-like Ted and Teddy either. Besides, I can only associate this name on Ted Nugent. I can be quite negative. So sue me. Many people have ruined names for me, so he sure would!

Ted Bundy. Enough said. It also sounds like a doofus bear name.

I am a girl called Theodore. I don't mind it but, naturally, people always assume I am a boy. Everybody calls me Theo (pronounced tay-o, as my mother is French). I don't mind this name but would never name a child Theodore because it and its common nicknames (eg. Ted, Teddy) sound rather out dated, in my opinion.
-- Theodore-Lenin  7/21/2008
Ugh, the shortened Theo works for me. Theodore sounds so affected and dorky - Theodork. Theo is mature and sophisticated enough to stand alone where as the pet form Teddy does not. If I loved Theo stand alone I'd never consider Theodore for the official name. Not worth it.

That's kind of how I feel, I like Theo, hate Theodore.
-- Anonymous User  5/21/2009
I like this name quite a bit, but it is a tad long and a little old-fashioned for a kid to always go by. I greatly dislike the nicknames Ted and Theo, but I am in love with the too-cute nickname Teddy!

I love this name. I adore the French pronunciation so much more than the English.
