I think this is a really good name. It sounds very rugged. I would use "Evander" on the birth certificate, but call him Van.

Well, I am a Vietnamese, so my words are believable. Van can either be Va^n (Vān) or Va(n (Văn) in Vietnamese. Va^n means cloud. It's a term borrowed from Chinese and used in literary/poetic contexts only. Va(n means mainly literature though it can also be interpreted as knowledge.

Both Va^n and Va(n can be either girls or boys' first names. However Va^n is more popular for girls as Va(n for boys. If Va(n is used as the middle name in a form of Surname + Va(n + Given name, it usually indicates that person is male. [noted -ed]
