Tolkien

J. R. R. Tolkien was a South African-born, English-raised novelist and linguist who lived from 1892 to 1973. He is best known as the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Tolkien invented most of the hundreds of names in his novels. He created etymologies for many of them in his invented languages Quenya and Sindarin. See literature.

Some of Tolkien's names have found thier way into semi-common usage: Galadriel and Arwen for example.
