According to my Norwegian mother Lill-Aase Thingvold, b. 1942, Kristiansund N., Møre og Romsdal, Norge, Aase means "Goddess" in Old Norse. Aase is the old-fashioned Norwegian spelling, it is now usually spelled Åse. In fact, most old Norwegian names that used to be spelled with a double "aa" (e.g., Haakon) are now spelled with the letter å taking the place of the double "aa" (e.g., Haakon would now be spelled Håkon, etc.)
I love this name!
It was used by the Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen in his play 'Peer Gynt' (1867), where it belongs to the mother of the title character.
That's cool, Felie.
