Actually none or less than two people are called that in Denmark, so I am not sure about that.

Too close to abalone for me.

My grandmother was named Maria Abelone. She later was called Appolona or Lena. Her parents were born in Germany and she was born her in the USA. Her sister also named her child a form of this, Appliona. Curious, not a German name at all.

I agree. It does sound like "Abalone".

Pronounced ah-be-LO-ne
Nicknames: Abbie, Lone
Derived from the name Apollo, the Greek god of music, poetry, plague, oracles, sun, medicine, light and knowledge
Literally means "father light".

I'd never use this, but I like the way it sounds and is spelled and I think the similarity to 'abalone' is quite charming, in a clunky way. I'd be delighted to meet or even hear of any Abelones.
