Despite the meaning "noble" the Hebrew word Adar has its linguistic roots in the Assyrian word for "cloudy" or "darkness". The Hebrew Adar is the root of the word Adir ("power") which has given rise to another pretty Hebrew name for girls, Adira. In the Talmud "adar" or "adara" denotes a flag or sail.
The intention of the word Adar is the Jewish month, when Poorim been celebrated.
Another meaning is "dark" or "black".
In Greek Adara means beauty.
