I believe there is one more alternative spelling - AHLHEID. I found it in an 1842 birth record in Osten, Lower Saxony (at the time, Kingdom of Hannover).
Also Danish and Flemish.
The name is also used in Norway.
Considered old fashioned in the Netherlands as well. 'Adel' means 'nobel' (in the sense of nobility), in Dutch.
Considered old fashioned in Germany, therefore rarely used on babies today.
