I've always heard this pronounced "Ah-nee-us", I've never heard the beginning pronounced like an "i".

I really love this name Aeneas. It has history, it is strong and unique at the same time. The only reservation I have for this name is its propensity for children to make fun of it. It does sound like an unfashionable part of the body.

I have taken Latin for five years. In ancient Rome, this name would have been pronounced eye-nay-as, because of the spelling and ancient Roman dialect.

I've heard this name pronounced "uh-NAY-is." In fact, I've never once heard it pronounced "i-NEE-is."

Aeneas Williams (1968-) was a Professional American Football Cornerback and Free Safety, inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
