In Euripides' Bacchae Dionysos, the son of Agaue's wronged sister Semele, wreaks revenge on the family by causing Agaue, in a Maenadic frenzy, to rip her son Pentheus to pieces. She is then forced into exile.

For some reason, when I first saw it, I thought it was pronounced a-GAW. Not really the best first impression. It must have a different pronunciation!

I believe it is pronounced a-GA-way. This is how my classics lecturer said it.
